Anthony Bate – in heaven

Anthony Bate (31 augustus 1927 – 19 juni 2012) was een Engels acteur. Bate werd geboren als de derde zoon van hoteliers op het Isle of Wight Hubert George Cookson Bate en Cecile Marjorie Canadine. Bate werd opgeleid aan de King Edward VI School, Stourbridge, en opgeleid aan de Central School of Speech and Drama (gouden medaille). Tijdens zijn dienstplicht diende hij van 1945 tot 1947 bij de Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. Bate’s eerste televisieoptreden was in 1955 en vanaf dat moment verscheen hij in: Pinter’s The Collection, The Idiot, Macbeth, Les Misérables, Grady (een trilogie), Darwin’s Bulldog, Fathers and Sons, King Oedipus, Ego Hugo, Intimate Strangers, The Dutch Train Hijack (1976), The Seagull (1977), Burgess and Maclean (1977), An Englishman’s Castle (1978), The Trial of Uri Urlov (1978), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1978), Crime and Punishment (1979), Tis Pity She’s A Whore (1980), Smiley’s People (1982), A Woman Called Golda (1982), Inspecteur Morse (1988), Countdown to War (1989), Agatha Christie’s Poirot (1990), Medics (1991 en 1992), Prime Suspect (1994), Rebecca (1996), A Touch of Frost (1996), Bodyguards (1996), Silent Witness (1997), Midsomer Murders (2000). Bate’s film credits omvatten Dentist in the Chair (1960), Dentist on the Job (1961), Payroll (1961), A Prize of Arms (1962), Act of Murder (1964), Ghost Story (1974), Give My Regards to Broad Street (1984), Eminent Domain (1990), Nowhere in Africa (2001). Op 22 mei 1954 trouwde hij met Diana Fay. Ze hadden twee zonen. Bate overleed op 19 juni 2012 op 84-jarige leeftijd in het St. Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight na een kort ziekbed.
